DIY LADY LENT

DIY LADY LENT

Posted by Panagiota Andreadakis on 17th Feb 2023

A custom of Clean Monday is when we make Lady Lent, an inedible dough lady made from flour, water and salt.

On her head she wears a scarf, she has no mouth, her hands are folded in prayer and she has seven legs. One leg is cut off each Saturday during the seven weeks of Lent. Read, Learn and Sing the Lady Lent Poem in Greek and English.

Did you know? Lady Lent can also be made from various things such as a paper drawing, clay and fabric filled with feathers.

Have you ever heard of the Lady Lent Poem? Here it is in both Greek and English for you to learn and sing along while your making your Lady Lent!

LADY LENT

Kyra Sarakosti, no mouth has she, she neither talks nor eats.

She has no ears, she does not hear gossip or idle speech.

Upon her chest, her crossed hands rest, all day Christ she entreats.

And seven feet, no more, no less, has she to count the weeks.

Each Saturday we cut away one of her seven feet.

The last we hide someplace inside some fruit or nuts or treats.

The one who finds «το τυχερό» receives good luck in heaps!
