Σημαία - Flag
The National flag of Cyprus (Σημαία της Κύπρου) was designed by artist Ismet Guney and came into use on 16 August 1960.
The National Flag of Cyprus features the shape of the island, with two olive branches below it on a white background. These olive branches symbolise the peace between the island's two communities, the Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. The map of Cyprus is a copper orange colour symbolising the large amounts of copper ore found on the island and the white background is another symbol of peace.
